Today I learned people can do amazing things with a bonsai and a piece of driftwood. AMAZING things.
Grafting a living tree to a long-dead one is called a Tanuki Bonsai. Over time the living tree will grow into driftwood and the two will become one. Sort of feels like a second chance and good karma.
